Woman and the Star of Life

Christmas Thoughts

More than exchanging gifts, Christmas is the real thanksgiving day for the gift of persons in our life.

The Star of Bethlehem points to the most important person ever borne by a woman: Jesus, the Word made flesh. He is the Bright Star that brightens the darkness of human night. With him are all the other stars that, in the background, also make life worth living for and truly being grateful for - persons we love and persons who love us.

Star of Bethlehem from Mary Bea Sullivan.

To all persons I love and love me, together with all persons who, one way or another, touched my life and are touched by my life , including readers near and far . . . thank you for being part of my life and making me part of your life. I wish and pray for God's precious blessings for each one of you.

Happy and Blessed Christmas!

Joan Baez

Beloved Woman , when still a young college graduate and spending Christmas at a hillside vacation house of a friend in Baguio City with closest friends, folk singers serenaded us with carols and capping the night with a song that repeated the line "May you stay forever young". For days and weeks I kept humming the song to myself, evidently touched by the message and the melody. And when I asked about the song or who sang it, no one can tell me. Apparently, it was not contemporary then. No internet yet where I could search for answers. From time to time the memory comes back and haunt me with the song.

Just a few days ago, after decades, I was stunned when while surfing the internet I came across "Forever Young" at You Tube and when I watched and listened I instantly fell in love with the songstress behind the song. Though the name is not new ("We Shall Overcome" was sung in Holy Masses of the 70s), her reality came to me with the force of fresh discovery, exhilaration, joy and a mixture of nostalgia and serendipity.

Below is the Video of Forever Young by Joan Baez, may you enjoy listening; and may you stay young in mind, heart and spirit forever . . .

Forever Young

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
And may you stay forever young

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
And may you stay forever young

Forever young forever young
May you stay forever young

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
And may you have a firm foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
And may you stay forever young

Forever young forever young
May you stay forever young

.

Most Lovable of Woman

Today is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary! It is a joy to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary, the most lovable and most humble of woman, whose prayer "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." (Luke 1:38, RSV) is the epitome of humble, loving submission and obedience to God.

Woman of Music

Beloved Woman, you came at a time when my heart was longing for home and our destiny since then had been intertwined, stranger though am I to you. You will for all time be making music which I for all time will be listening again and again. Your music makes my life full of deep joy that comes with enchantment and oneness with all that I treasure and cherish.

Homecoming is my doorway to a whole new world, ethereal yet so real, heavenly yet so earthy, divine yet so human. Indeed music is the language of the spirit, but in the same vein its vibration is the vibration of matter, the flesh, nature, the world; and your music catalyzes the oneness of being in my heart. May the music of my spirit born by the prayer of my heart, through some mysterious alchemy of the spheres, reach and touch you with grateful love and fondness for all the gifts of music and song springing forth from the creative power of your love.

Beloved Woman of Music, Thank you!
